By Dr. Cindy Brown,

Our busy lifestyles, schedules and responsibilities seem to take a toll on our ability to take care of ourselves, and to show up our best in our lives and relationships. I have found that the majority of people/couples I coach have one thing in common – they are spending more time on work and responsibilities and less time on self care and nurturing activities…ultimately this practice can have a detrimental affect on your health and how you show up in your relationships.

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET About How To Keep your Passion and Commitment Alive?

 1. In order to take care of yourself better, you will first need to spend some time figuring out what you like that helps you replenish yourself with feel good hormones (Oxytocin for females and Testosterone for males) and release the stress hormone Cortisol. Men and women often need to do different things to bring them back in balance each day. If you don’t do something each day, you are risking having STRESS affect you in these ways; weaken immune system, easy to get colds and flu, mood fluctuations, depression and anxiety, irritability, impatience, loss of desire and libido, weight gain.

2. Now write down the list of activities that renew you and make you happy and rejuvenated on a piece of paper you can put up on your fridge, bathroom window, by your computer, or put them in your phone, or on your screen saver, to remind you each day. Some of my favorite activities are: power naps, exercise; walking, dancing, hiking, reading and/ or listening to motivational material by the pool, morning spiritual ritual; stretching/yoga and spiritual reading, rollerblading, shopping, meditating, eating sushi, getting a massage a facial and my nails done, etc.

 3. Now take out your calendar and schedule at least one of the activities that you wrote down from your list above each day in your daily and weekly planner, add more if your schedule allows for it (YES, put it in your schedule just like an appointment with a client or doctor). Studies show that people who schedule and plan are more successful at accomplishing their tasks and goals than those that do not or just wing it.

4.Continually monitor your daily/weekly schedule, responsibilities and activities in order for you to assess how your lifestyle and stress may be impacting your life and relationships (positively or negatively.) Adjust it as necessary. Make sure you plan everyday, otherwise as you know your life takes over and everything else falls by the wayside! Research shows that people who know and take care of themselves have better relationships and a better quality of life. Do yourself and your partner a favor, pay attention to yourself first, and your life and relationships will be as great as you are feeling and being!

5If you can’t do it on your own, I can show you how…I have some great programs to help you put yourself first! Many times you need a coach and an advocate to help you do this.
